My sister Dete (M. Bernadete Costa-Fox) and I spent the Thanksgiving weekend together. Family was our most frequent topic, as one might expect. When everything is going smoothly, we talk about one topic, go to the next thing, just keep going between meals and "cup of coffee" and meals, and forget about most of our discussions. However, no family gathering goes by for too long without some issues that we are trying to resolve. Well, our weekend was not different.
Yesterday, Monday, I came back home, went about my business around the house and my own affairs. At some point after doing some e-mail work and making some family phone calls, I felt that some of the issues we had discussed seemed to subside and a brighter future seemed at reach. So, in the evening I called Dete to tell her the good news of my fresher and positive outlook. She was very happy to hear and said that she also thought about our discussions and that she had this idea about involving the talented individuals of our family, who feel not completely fit in their current professional achievements or feel bored outside their current work schedule. Her idea was to create a company to produce and provide English training material.
Well, that was before finishing up with my reading and getting ready to go to bed. I told her that it seemed to be a cool thoughtful idea, because it involved some of her closest relatives in the Lansing area who she has been trying to help, and she explained that "as relatives we need to work together and help each other." Off course I was happy to hear that and that both of us ended the day on a positive outlook.
Next day while I was waking up, I started to elaborate that idea and extend it to include some other family talents, the idea kind expanded and expanded. Before an explosion took place, I decided to send her a note via e-mail, and here is the exact copy of what I sent her:
Dete
Ur idea is brilliant! I am glad I didn't first see as much depth as I saw in the morning as I was waking up. Otherwise I wouldn't not have slept all night.
I am interested in helping you to put this thing together. Initially as part time. I am particularly interested in the otherwise boring part, the business development: structure, resources, sales and marketing, business workflow, etc. :o)
Please, let me know if I got the job.
Bye, cul8r,
YBBE
Another outcome was the creation of this space and propose it as a single location to toss ideas around as we explore the opportunity. And this is the end of First Steps I. :o)
